Gresham MAX Improvements

Gresham MAX Improvements

From Sept. 22 to Oct. 5, MAX Blue Line service in Gresham will be disrupted as we make improvements to MAX.

From the start of service Sunday, Sept. 22 through the end of service Saturday, Oct. 5, our crews will be improving MAX between Rockwood/E 188th Ave and Cleveland Ave MAX stations in Gresham.

During this time, MAX Blue Line trains between Rockwood and Cleveland will be replaced by shuttle buses.

This essential work will make your ride smoother and more reliable.

Shuttle Bus Service

Five MAX stations will be closed during the disruption: Ruby Junction, Civic Drive, Gresham City Hall, Gresham Central and Cleveland Ave.

Shuttle buses will bridge the gap between MAX stations and will serve stations between Rockwood/E 188th Ave and Cleveland Ave stations. Shuttle bus stops will be at or near MAX stations.

They’ll depart about every five minutes during the morning and afternoon rush hours and about every 15 minutes the rest of the day. Don’t worry about showing your fare on the shuttles.

Why is this necessary?

We know — anything that disrupts MAX service is frustrating. But this work is necessary to keep MAX reliable for the future. And due to the nature of the work, we can’t just do it on nights and weekends.

During this disruption, crews will replace ties, switch machines, signal equipment and overhead wires on our oldest stretch of track (it’s been in continuous service since the mid-80s!) We’re also going to repart (and in some caes rebuild) several sections where MAX rails crosses roads. This will make for a smoother ride for our riders (as well as auto drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians), and less wear and tear on our trains.

There will also be an additional disruption spring 2020 as we finish phase two of this project.
