Bus Lines Changing with the Arrival of the MAX Orange Line

We’re changing 10 bus lines once the MAX Orange Line opens to improve connections for neighborhoods adjacent to the Orange Line. These following changes will take effect September 13, 2015.

Line 9-Powell

  • Frequent Service will be restored on Sundays, and buses will run every 15 minutes or better most of the day.
  • The route will shift from the Ross Island Bridge to Tilikum Crossing, avoiding congestion and making new connections in SE Portland and the South Waterfront neighborhood.
  • Riders will be able to transfer to the MAX Orange Line at the OMSI/SE Water Ave, South Waterfront/SW Moody Ave or Lincoln St/SW 3rd Ave stations. Trains will serve all Downtown Portland Transit Mall stations.

Line 17-Holgate

  • The route will shift from the Ross Island Bridge to Tilikum Crossing, avoiding congestion and making new connections in SE Portland and the South Waterfront neighborhood.
  • Riders will be able to transfer to the MAX Orange Line at the SE 17th Ave & Holgate, SE 17th Ave & Rhine St, OMSI/SE Water Ave, South Waterfront/SW Moody Ave or Lincoln St/SW 3rd Ave stations. Trains will serve all Downtown Portland Transit Mall stations.
  • Buses will maintain their existing frequency, days and hours of service.
  • There will be no changes to the Broadway leg.

Line 19-Woodstock

  • Buses will begin service earlier on Saturday and Sunday mornings, with new trips beginning around 8 a.m.
  • Riders will be able totransfer to the MAX Orange Line at the SE Bybee Blvd Station, and trains will serve all Downtown Portland Transit Mall stations.
  • There will be no changes to the Glisan leg.

Line 28-Linwood will combine with Line 34 to become Line 34-Linwood/River Rd

  • Frequency will increase from every 70 minutes to about every 35 minutes.
  • Buses will follow a new route into Downtown Milwaukie via Linwood Avenue, Johnson Creek Boulevard, Tacoma Street, and Main Street (including service to Milwaukie Park & Ride).
  • The route will continue south from SE Jackson Street.
  • Riders will be able to transfer to the MAX Orange Line at SE Tacoma St/Johnson Creek or Milwaukie/Main St stations.
  • Buses will maintain their existing days and hours of service (weekdays about 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.).

Line 31-King Rd will combine with Line 33 to become Line 33-McLoughlin/King Rd

  • Frequency and hours of service will increase (to match most Line 33 service).
  • Buses will maintain their existing route to Downtown Milwaukie, then most trips will continue south on McLoughlin Boulevard to Oregon City.
  • Riders will be able to transfer to the MAX Orange Line at the Milwaukie/Main St and SE Park Ave stations.

Line 32-Oatfield

  • Buses will maintain their existing route north to SE Jackson Street in Downtown Milwaukie, where the line will end.
  • Riders will be able to transfer to the MAX Orange Line at the Milwaukie/Main St Station.
  • Buses will maintain their existing frequency, days and hours of service.

Line 33-McLoughlin/King Rd

  • Frequent Service will be added on Sundays.
  • Buses will maintain their existing route to Downtown Milwaukie, then most trips will continue east on Harrison Street and King Road to Clackamas Town Center.
  • Riders will be able to transfer to the MAX Orange Line at the SE Park Ave and Milwaukie/Main St stations.

Line 34-Linwood/River Rd

  • Frequency will increase from every 70 minutes to about every 35 minutes.
  • The route between Oregon City and Downtown Milwaukie remains the same, and the line will continue north from SE Jackson Street. Buses will serve the Milwaukie Park & Ride, SE Tacoma/Johnson Creek Park & Ride and Clackamas Town Center.
  • Riders will be able to transfer to the MAX Orange Line at the Milwaukie/Main St or SE Tacoma St/Johnson Creek stations.
  • Trips to Clackamas Heights will instead be served by the Line 154-Willamette/Clackamas Heights.
  • Buses will maintain their existing days and hours of service (weekdays from about 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.).

Line 99-Macadam/McLoughlin

  • There will be new service to Oregon City in the mornings and to Downtown Portland in the evenings. Service will run both directions on weekday mornings from about 5:30–8:45 a.m. and in the evening from about 3–7 p.m.
  • Buses will follow a new route into Downtown Portland, with limited stops on Tacoma Street, to the existing route on the Downtown Portland Transit Mall. The route will shift to the new Sellwood Bridge once it opens to bus traffic.
  • Riders will be able to transfer to the MAX Orange Line at the SE Park Ave or SE Tacoma St/Johnson Creek stations, and trains will serve all Downtown Portland Transit Mall stations.
  • Buses will maintain their existing frequency, days and hours of service (weekdays during commute hours only).

Line 154-Willamette/Clackamas Heights

  • This route will extend to serve Clackamas Heights.
  • Extra trips will be added.

Lines connecting with new MAX Orange Line stations (without route changes)

  • Line 29-Lake/Webster Rd (transfer at Milwaukie/Main St Station)
  • Line 70-12th/NE 33rd Ave (walk about five blocks from SE Jackson Street to transfer at Milwaukie/Main St Station, or transfer at 17th Ave/Holgate, SE 17th Ave/Rhine or Clinton/SE 12th Ave stations)
  • Line 75-Cesar Chavez/Lombard (walk about five blocks from SE Jackson Street to transfer at Milwaukie/Main St Station)
  • Line 152-Milwaukie (walk about five blocks from SE Jackson Street to transfer at Milwaukie/Main St Station)

New maps and schedules will be available in August, and the service changes will take effect Sunday, September 13.
