Ticket Machine Out of Order?

Don't give up just yet…

We know it's a hassle when a machine is out of order. We've taken steps to reduce breakdowns and keep the machines up and running for riders as much as possible. If you encounter a broken machine, don't give up just yet... There may be other ways you can purchase your fare:

Try another form of payment

If the machine isn't accepting debit/credit cards, it may still be accepting bills and coins. (If the machine is labeled "Card Only," try a different machine.)

Most stations have more than one.

Buy a ticket in advance

You can buy books of 10 tickets in advance from neighborhood ticket outlets including most Albertsons, Fred Meyer and Safeway stores, at the TriMet Ticket Office at Pioneer Courthouse Square and online in the TriMet Store. Just remember to stamp your ticket in the validator at the station before boarding.

Board and buy a ticket at the next stop

If all else fails, board the train, buy a ticket at the next station, and get back on. Fare inspectors can check to see if the machines were working at the previous stop.

Heavily used machines break down more often simply because of the repeated wear and tear. We do our best to repair machines within 24 hours of when we are notified of an issue.
