Construction Scope and Road Closures
June 30, 2009
North of SE Harold Street, the ODOT I-205 multi-use path reopened Tuesday, June 30. South of SE Harold, the multi-use path remains closed until fall 2009 while crews install lighting, a project recently funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
During the summer, remaining street work of one or two days duration will take place at a few locations, requiring lane shifts and lane closures. Construction along the light rail alignment is nearing completion, and email updates of project construction will be sent on an as-needed basis.
Light rail operator training is now under on the I-205 light rail alignment, but all platforms, stations and Park & Ride lots remain closed until MAX Green Line service begins in September 2009. Learn more about staying safe near MAX Green Line.
Throughout the I-205 alignment, crews are working Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Scheduled work includes:
SE Stark and Washington Streets
Sidewalk and fencing improvements continue on SE Stark and SE Washington streets, for one block east of I-205 through July. Expect intermittent single lane closures and sidewalk detours.
SE Main Street Station
Work is wrapping up at the station.
SE Division Street
Installation of landscaping continues. Construction activity and truck traffic will require minor lane closures between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. between SE 92nd Avenue and the freeway.
The multi-use path between SE Caruthers Street and SE Harold Street reopened June 30. The remainder of the path south of SE Harold Street will open after new lighting is installed. An alternative route is available that parallels I-205 where the path is closed.
SE Powell Boulevard
Park & Ride construction is wrapping up. The multi-use path between SE Caruthers Street and SE Harold Street reopened June 30. The remainder of the path south of SE Harold Street will open after new lighting is installed. An alternative route is available that parallels I-205 where the path is closed.
SE Holgate Boulevard
Park & Ride construction is wrapping up. Bus shelters to be installed in early summer.
SE Harold Street
Paving crews will work on the multi-use path between SE Harold Street and Foster Road through mid July. Expect intermittent truck traffic and flaggers as trucks access the site.
Lents Town Center/SE Foster Road
Crews are installing landscaping and fencing along the trackway, and making street and sidewalk improvements to SE Foster Road, SE Ramona Street and SE Woodstock Boulevard, just east of SE 92nd Avenue. Expect intermittent single lane closures, sidewalk closures and freeway off-ramp restrictions during the day.
Springwater Corridor Trail
Expect short delays and a narrower trail just south of I-205 during water utility work, through the end of July.
SE Flavel Street
Trains are running on the I-205 light rail alignment in order to test systems and signals. The crossing gate on SE Flavel Street is operational. Station work is wrapping up.
SE 92nd Avenue and Crystal Springs Boulevard
Expect intermittent truck traffic as crews access the construction project off SE Fuller Road. Sidewalk and multi-use path repair is scheduled for early summer.
SE Johnson Creek Boulevard
Crews are continuing improvements to the multi-use path and its new access off SE Fuller Road this summer.
SE Fuller Road
Park & Ride construction continues. Sidewalk repair is scheduled for early summer and will require some lane shifts for a day or two.
SE Otty Road to SE Sunnyside Road
Construction continues on the multi-use path between SE Otty Road and SE Monterey Avenue along I-205, Monday through Saturday. During paving operations later this summer expect truck traffic and flaggers on SE Otty Road as crews access the path. Crews are installing protective fencing along Monterey Avenue. Expect intermittent lane shifts and flaggers through summer on Monterey for path completion.
During the week of July 6, between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., crews will install cantilevered signs on I-205. This work requires a single lane closure, southbound, between SE Otty Road and SE Sunnyside Road.
During the week of July 13, between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. crews will pave the southbound shoulder of I-205, requiring a single lane closure on the freeway between SE Otty Road and SE Sunnyside Road. This work is weather dependent.
Clackamas Town Center
Path, track and systems work will continue into the summer. Buses are using the completed garage as a layover break site.
Expect intermittent shoulder closures on I-205, right side north and southbound, between NE Glisan Street and SE Sunnyside Avenue through summer for sign and fence installation.
Multi-use path
Due to light rail construction along I-205, the multi-use path is closed to through traffic between SE Caruthers Street, just north of SE Division Street, and SE Sunnyside Road adjacent to Clackamas Town Center. The path between Caruthers and SE Harold Street is scheduled to reopen July 2009. The remainder of the path will open after the new lighting is installed.
An improved alternative route that parallels I-205 is available for pedestrians, cyclists and people using mobility devices. To learn more, download the multi-use path fact sheet (207KB PDF).

Most of the new alignment follows an existing "transitway" created when I-205 was originally constructed. This transitway provides an available right of way that allows for faster construction, fewer traffic disruptions and few community impacts. Project design allows for the ability to widen the freeway or improve interchanges in the future.
