MAX Green Line Bike Amenities
With the completion of the MAX Green Line, cyclists will find expanded bike facilities along 5th and 6th avenues in downtown Portland, and along I-205.
Cyclists will find the addition of more than 200 bike parking spaces, bicycle access to all 57 blocks of 5th and 6th avenues, and improvements to bikeways within the I-205 corridor.
Bike access downtown
Bicycles share the left lane with motor vehicles on 5th and 6th avenues. The intersections are timed to allow traffic to travel at a safe and comfortable speed. On SW 5th Avenue, a bike lane is provided for uphill travel from SW Jefferson Street past Portland State University.
Bike parking downtown
Given the great demand for bike parking, 130 short-term bike parking spaces are being added to the Portland Transit Mall and adjacent blocks.
Bike oases
"Bike oases" are being installed at several locations along the Mall. A bike oasis is a group of bike racks that are covered to provide shelter from the weather. Watch for an oasis at or near:
- SW 5th & Columbia: six racks with room for 12 bikes
- SW 5th & Yamhill: four racks with room for 8 bikes
- SW 6th & Washington: six racks with room for 12 bikes
- NW 6th & Couch: six racks with room for 12 bikes
New staple-shaped racks, providing 64 additional parking spaces, are being added to streets that cross 5th and 6th avenues.

South of the Springwater Corridor to SE Sunnyside Road, the multi-use path remains closed until November 7 while crews continue installation of new lighting and paving, a project recently funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Improvements to the multi-use path along I-205 include:
- Elevated crossings over SE Foster Road and SE Woodstock Boulevard, making the path safer and faster
- Direct access to the eight new MAX stations and five Park & Ride lots
- Improved landscaping and better lighting for enhanced safety at stations areas
- New lighting along the path as it follow the MAX I-205 alignment and all the way to Gladstone, to be completed by the end of November.
