TriMet invites public to Line 83-Park Blocks meeting

Route’s low ridership may lead to discontinuation

A community meeting on TriMet's proposal to discontinue Line 83-Park Blocks due to low ridership will be held on Tuesday, June 28 at Portland State University.

TriMet proposes to discontinue the route on December 5, 2005 because the cost per ride is $10.80 compared to the bus system average of $2.22. During the past 10 months, TriMet and Ride Connection have worked with elderly and disabled residents along Line 83 to discuss the line’s performance and to consider options.

Transit options

Line 83-Park Blocks runs daily from SW Park & Montgomery to SW 4th & Main. Good transit options remain available in the area. Frequent Service bus lines run along SW Columbia & Jefferson, SW Main & Salmon, and the Portland Streetcar runs along SW 10th & 11th. Additionally, Northwest Portland Ministries, through Ride Connection provides existing van service for elderly and disabled individuals in the area. They plan to improve service to run seven days a week and to provide more frequent service.

Community Meeting

The meeting will be at Portland State University from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28 in Room 329 of the Smith Memorial Student Union. The building is on the west side of Broadway between Montgomery & Harrison streets. The Line 8-Jackson Park provides service to the meeting.
