TriMet names Agency Architect

Northeast Portland resident will head new position

Robert W. Hastings, AIA, has been promoted to the newly-created position of agency architect, supervising all agency architectural design, land use planning and urban design efforts. Hastings is responsible for the design of various buildings, stations, platforms, transit centers, park & ride areas, pedestrian facilities and street improvements.

Most recently a project architect, Hastings has spent the past seven years managing architectural urban design for many TriMet capital projects, including the downtown Portland Mall and Interstate MAX.

Prior to joining TriMet in 2000, Hastings was an architect with the Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership architectural firm for 12 years, five of which were devoted to providing architectural services for TriMet’s light rail projects, such as Westside MAX and the award-winning Sunset Transit Center.

A past president of the Oregon and Portland American Institute of Architects (AIA) chapters, Hastings was a co-creator of the AIA Oregon Design Conferences. He holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Oregon. He is a resident of Northeast Portland.
