January another strong ridership month

TriMet bus and MAX ridership figures continued to climb in January 2009, with 8.2 million rides taken during the month, up 2.4 percent over January 2008. All figures below are compared to January 2008.

Bus and MAX ridership

• Weekly bus and MAX trips were up 4.5 percent averaging 1.9 million trips.
• Weekday bus and MAX rides were up 4.4 percent to 324,300.
• Weekend rides were up 5.2 percent to 324,300.
• Rush hour trips on bus & MAX were up 6.3 percent averaging 110,400 trips.

Bus ridership

• Weekly bus trips increased 5.7 percent to 1.3 million trips.
• Weekday bus trips increased 5 percent to 219,300 trips.
• Rush hour bus trips rose 8.2 percent to 78,000.

MAX Ridership

• Weekly MAX trips increased 2.3 percent to 643,000 trips.
• Weekday MAX trips increased 3.2 percent to 105,000 trips.
• Rush hour trips increased 1.9 percent to 32,400 boardings.
