Two Spare Rail Cars Will Help Back Up WES

Currently, WES has three commuter rail cars that serve Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin and Wilsonville during weekday rush hour. When cars are out of service, shuttle buses have been used to get riders to their destination. With the purchase of these two cars, we can reduce or eliminate the need for shuttle buses to supplement WES service and help make service seamless for riders.

About the Spare Rail Cars

Two diesel cars were purchased from the Alaska Railroad to help reduce or eliminate the need for shuttle buses to supplement WES service and help make service seamless for riders. They are 85 feet long, stainless steel, self-propelled vehicles. Built in 1953 by the Budd Company in Pennsylvania and completely rebuilt in 2000, these cars will be retrofitted and ready for WES service by the first of the year.
