Route and Stations

In 2008, jurisdictional partners and the public examined alternatives for the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Project. Numerous end points, station locations, track alignments and bridge alignments were studied and considered. In July 2008, a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) was approved.

The 2008 LPA route includes:

  • an extension of light rail from Portland State University south
  • 2 new stations on the west side of the Willamette River
  • a multi-use transit bridge spanning the river from OSHU’s future South Waterfront campus to OMSI
  • 8 new stations on the east side of the Willamette, beginning at OMSI and proceeding south through inner Southeast Portland and Milwaukie to north Clackamas County
  • a south terminus at Oak Grove
