Riding the Bus After Dark?

We make extra stops for extra safety at night

If you are traveling alone between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., you can ask your bus operator to stop anywhere along the route—not just at designated stops.

Just let the operator know where you want to stop a block or two in advance. He or she will pull over at a safe place to let you off.

This service is available anywhere outside Portland City Center and the Lloyd District. For details, ask your operator.

Be seen and be safe

Here's how you can increase your visibility and prevent accidental pass-ups during the winter months:

  • Wear bright-colored clothing and stand up as your bus approaches.
  • Wave your cell phone or a flashlight to alert the operator.
  • When riding a bike at night, be seen. Visibility is important when you're riding around buses. When loading a bike, never step in front of a bus unless it is stopped and the driver sees you. Always use a front white light and a rear red light at night, at dusk and at dawn. And remember, buses have blind spots: If you can't see the operator in the mirror, the operator can't see you. More
