Wondering what to do when a ticket machine is out of order?
If you need to buy a ticket and the machine isn't working, don't give up just yet… There are other ways you can purchase your fare.
First, try another form of payment. If the machine isn't accepting debit/credit cards, it's probably still accepting bills and coins.
You can also try using another machine.
Depending on which station you're at, you may be able to purchase a ticket from a nearby vendor. Participating shops and cafes at some of the major MAX stations (such as Gresham Central Transit Center) sell tickets during business hours. Just remember to stamp your ticket in the validator at the station before boarding.
You can always buy tickets in advance. Books of 10 tickets are available at grocery stores such as Safeway, Fred Meyer and Albertsons, and at the TriMet office at Pioneer Courthouse Square. You can also order them online at trimet.org.
We're working to fix broken machines and make it easier to pay your fare. We've stepped up maintenance efforts to reduce breakdowns. And about 50 old machines will be replaced by Spring of 2009.
We're sorry if you have experienced an inconvenience buying your ticket. We're working hard to do better.
