Text transcript of this episode
These days, more and more Portlanders are using pedal power to get around. And a growing number of cyclists are combining their bike trips with transit. If you're planning on bringing your bicycle on MAX, here's what you need to know.
TriMet only allows single-seat, two-wheeled bikes on board, or recumbents and electric bikes the size of a standard bicycle. Trailers are not allowed.
Bikes are allowed on MAX only if there's room, so try to make your trip before or after rush hour. If MAX is full, you need to wait for another train.
When MAX arrives, allow other riders to exit and enter the train first, then, walk your bike on board.
Inside, look for the signs that show where bikes may be stored. If a vertical rack is available, use that one first.
Remember to keep your bike as clean as possible, and try not to brush it against others.
Always yield the priority seating areas to seniors and people with disabilities. And be sure not to block the stairwells or aisles.
If you're on a train with steps at the front doors, bikes are not allowed at the top of the steps.
When you practice good bike etiquette, it makes the ride more comfortable for everyone. Happy riding, and we'll see you on board!
