Lloyd MAX Improvements

Lloyd MAX Improvements

From Aug. 4 to 17, Blue, Green and Red MAX lines will be disrupted and all lines will be affected as we make track improvements.

From the start of service Sunday, Aug. 4 through the end of service Saturday, Aug. 17, our crews will be improving MAX tracks between Interstate/Rose Quarter and Lloyd Center/NE 11th Ave MAX stations.

MAX Blue, Green and Red lines will be disrupted, and there will be no trains between N Interstate Ave and Lloyd Center/NE 11th Ave MAX stations.

All trains will run less often, so check the schedules below and allow extra time for your trips. Alternatively, consider using regular bus service or other modes of transportation.

Getting through the closure

Shuttle Bus Service

Three MAX stations will be closed: Rose Quarter, Convention Center and NE 7th Ave. For many, the easiest way to navigate this disruption will be to walk about ¾ of a mile between the Rose Quarter and Lloyd Center/NE 11th Ave stations.

Shuttle buses will bridge the gap between MAX stations and service stations between Interstate/Rose Quarter and Lloyd Center/NE 11th Ave stations and serve stops near the closed MAX stations.

They’ll depart every 3–5 minutes during morning rush hour, and every 10 minutes the rest of the day. Don’t worry about showing your fare on the shuttles.

Planning your trip

  • Check the updated schedules before you travel
  • Allow an extra 30–45 minutes
  • If possible, try to avoid riding during rush hours (7–9 a.m. and 4–6 p.m.).
  • Trains will be more crowded than usual

You’ve got other options, too. We recommend working from home (if possible) or taking alternate transportation. You can always ride the bus, take the Portland Streetcar, or consider biking, scootering or carpooling.

Again, thanks for being patient while we improve our system and your future riding experience!

Why is this necessary?

We know — this is annoying. Unfortunately, this is pretty extensive work that can’t be done in the few hours that MAX doesn’t run. Crews will replace switches and sections of track that have been worn down over the years, which will make your rides safer, smoother, and more reliable for years to come.

For more details about the work we’re doing, head to our blog.

Improvements like this one are crucial to keeping MAX running safely and reliably for years to come.
