Morrison-Yamhill MAX Improvements

Morrison–Yamhill MAX Improvements

MAX service will be disrupted from April 30 to May 20 as we make major improvements in Downtown Portland. Trains will be extremely crowded and run less frequently, so consider alternate options for your commute.

From the start of service on Sunday, April 30, through end of service on Saturday, May 20, our crews will be improving MAX tracks on SW Morrison and Yamhill streets in Downtown Portland. We’re doing this to make your ride smoother and more reliable.

During these three weeks, MAX Blue, Red and Green lines will be disrupted. All MAX lines will run less frequently.

Blue and Red line trains will be detoured along the Transit Mall on 5th and 6th avenues. Shuttle buses will provide service between Rose Quarter and Providence Park. Blue Line trains, but no Red Line trains, will be running west of Providence Park.

MAX Green Line will only run between Clackamas and Rose Quarter Transit Center.

Explore alternate commute options

The train may usually be the fastest and most convenient way to get where you’re going, but check out some alternatives that could work for you during the disruption.

Ride a bike

With 1,000 bikes and 100 stations throughout the Portland city center, BIKETOWN bike share is a quick, convenient and fun way to get around.

Redeem your free Single Ride pass by signing up and entering promo code TRIMET17 on the BIKETOWN app or at biketownpdx.com.

Already have an account? Enter the promo code here for a credit.

During the disruption, room for bikes on board MAX will be very limited due to crowding. To prevent extended delays, consider cycling the entire way or parking your bike at a station.

Take the bus

Many MAX trips can be also be done by bus, often with few transfers.

Walk there

Walking is a heart-healthy and efficient way to get around. Instead of waiting to transfer to another bus or shuttle, consider walking — for instance, it only takes about 15 minutes to walk from Pioneer Courthouse Square to Providence Park.

Shopping nearby?

Businesses on Morrison and Yamhill streets will be open during the project. Stop in!
