2017 Rose Festival Parades

Avoid the hassle of traffic and parking and let us take you to the Rose Festival parades!

Rose Festival parades are our busiest days of the year, so please plan extra time for your trips!

We’ll have staff and volunteers out and about to help you get to, through and home from the parades.

Starlight Parade

The Starlight Parade will light up the streets of Downtown Portland on Saturday, June 3, at 8:30 p.m. We’ll have staff and volunteers out and about to help you navigate to, through and back home from the parade.

What to expect

  • All MAX lines will continue to run through Downtown during the parade and all stations will be open.
  • Expect long waits for MAX trains once the parade is over as everyone begins to head home at the same time. Trains may arrive already full, but please be patient as later trains will arrive with fewer riders.
  • Bus lines 6, 12, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 54/56 and 77 will be detoured during the parade.

Tips for the parade

  • Taking MAX? Plan an extra 30 minutes for all MAX trips as trains systemwide may stop at stations for several minutes while trains in Portland City Center are held during the parade.
  • On the bus? Plan an extra 15–30 minutes for trips on bus lines that run through downtown.
  • To leave downtown, consider taking regular bus service, the Lloyd Center Express bus, or a different MAX line and then transfer.
  • The Lloyd Center Express bus service will loop between the Lloyd Center/NE 11th Ave MAX Station and 2nd Avenue in Downtown. Express buses will run from about 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and after the parade ends through about 12:30 a.m.
  • Heading East after the parade? Rather than waiting for crowded MAX Blue and Red line trains, catch the Green Line on 6th Avenue and transfer to a Blue or Red train at Gateway Transit Center.
  • We have a number of Park & Rides. The lots closer to downtown usually fill up first, so consider one a little farther out.
  • Please avoid bringing big coolers, large strollers, or bicycles on MAX. We’re expecting huge crowds, so if you’ve got a big cooler, stroller or bike, you may have to wait longer to find space on the trains.
  • Stay safe by staying aware around our buses and trains. Don’t cross against the light or get distracted by your smartphone. Our operators will be watching out for you, but please watch for our vehicles too.
  • You can purchase your fare in advance on the TriMet Tickets app, at the grocery store, the TriMet Ticket Office, or online.

Grand Floral Parade

The Grand Floral Parade winds its way through the streets of Portland City Center on Saturday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We’ll have staff and volunteers out and about to help you navigate to, through and home from the parade.

What to expect

  • Taking MAX? Plan an extra 30 minutes for all MAX trips as trains systemwide may stop at stations for several minutes while trains in Portland City Center are held during the parade.
  • On the bus? Plan an extra 15–30 minutes for trips on bus lines that run through downtown.
  • Twelve bus lines intersect the parade route and will be detoured.
    Lines 12, 15, 19, 20 and 35 will be detoured from about 4 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Lines 4, 6, 16, 17, 44, and 54/56 will be detoured from about 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Rose Festival Fleet Week

The Rose Festival Fleet will pull into the port at the Portland Waterfront starting Wednesday afternoon, June 7, and Thursday afternoon, June 8. Please plan an extra 30–60 minutes to your trip if commuting across the Willamette River during those times.

What to expect

  • All MAX trains will be stopped for Steel Bridge lifts as ships pull in.
  • Buses traveling across the Broadway, Steel and Burnside bridges will also experience delays, so consider taking lines that cross the river using the Hawthorne and Ross Island bridges instead.
  • Our crews will be monitoring the lifts and adjusting service as necessary, which may include shuttle buses across the river for those taking MAX.
  • Please plan extra time to your morning commute on Monday, June 13, as the ships leave the port.
