Some Fares Will Increase Jan. 1, 2024

Effective Monday, January 1, 2024, we’re increasing the price of our 2½-Hour Ticket and Day Pass by 12%, to help cover the growing costs of operating our transit system. Month Pass and Annual Pass prices will not change.

Note: This increase only applies to single-ride fares and Day Passes, so most frequent riders will not be affected. See below for details.

Which fares are going up?

The fare increase affects 2½-Hour Tickets and Day Passes only. If you ride frequently (that is, you ride enough to earn a Month Pass), your fare will not change.

How will this increase affect riders who rely on TriMet to get around?

The Month Pass price is not changing, so even after the fare increase takes effect, frequent riders using TriMet’s Honored Citizen and Youth fares will still pay just $28/month, and Adult riders will still pay $100/month. However, after the fare increase, all riders will earn a Month Pass sooner.

Why raise fares?

This is our first fare increase for Adult riders in more than a decade. Despite the rising costs of gas, utilities and supplies in recent years, we have taken steps to avoid increasing most fares since 2012. This increase will help us address inflation and the growing costs of operating our transit system.

It will also help us pay for some major service improvements in the works as part of our Forward Together plan. Over the next few years, this expansion will give more people, especially those living on lower incomes, access to reliable and convenient transit service.
