Validating Tickets

Validating Paper Tickets

If you’re using a paper ticket to ride MAX, WES or the Streetcar, it must be validated. There are validators near the ticket machines at MAX and WES stations, and on board the Streetcar.

How to use the validator

Tickets purchased from a ticket machine come pre-validated, so you are free to board the train.

Otherwise, insert your ticket into the validator (located next to the ticket machine), with the arrow facing up. The validator will stamp the date and expiration time on it, making it valid for immediate use.

Streetcars have validators on board

There are ticket machines and validators on board the Portland Streetcar. If you already have a ticket and you begin your trip on a streetcar, stamp the ticket in the validator on board.
