Changes at Powell Garage and Powell Park & Ride
As TriMet increases service in the coming years, the bus fleet at each of our three garages is growing.
Improvements Coming to Powell Garage Bus Facility
We’ve started designing the improvements to the Powell Garage Facility. We expect to finish the design in spring 2018 and start construction that fall.
We’re working to grow our network of buses and trains while making your ride smoother, safer and more reliable.
See what we’re doing to make transit better
The Powell Garage (9800 SE Powell Boulevard, adjacent to the east side of I-205) was built in 1976 as a temporary facility while the Center Garage, in Southeast Portland, was under construction. Planning is in progress to reconfigure the Powell Garage site to improve bus and employee circulation and safety at its access points, replace and modernize the aging buildings, and accommodate 50 percent more buses, including larger, articulated buses for the Division Transit Project.
To make space for these improvements at Powell Garage, parking and dispatch for LIFT vehicles will be moved from this site to the underutilized portion of the Powell Park & Ride (3618 SE 92nd Avenue, adjacent to the west side of I-205). LIFT is TriMet’s paratransit shared-ride service for people who are unable to use regular buses and trains.

- Reconfigure south end of site for secure LIFT van and employee parking, with landscaping and storm water planters. Construct single-story dispatch building
- Keep access via 92nd Avenue and I-205 multi-use path
