Become a CAT Member

An essential component of CAT’s success is having a diverse committee representing various disabilities, age groups, and communities across the TriMet service district. With its focus on accessibility, a central goal of the committee is to include members who represent a wide range of disabilities. In addition, it is important to TriMet to have representation from members of various ethnic, economic and geographic backgrounds. This diversity means that CAT members offer unique perspectives on how to improve transportation accessibility throughout the region. Using their varied experiences, CAT members are a part of advocacy efforts in support of equitable and accessible transportation from the point of view of everyday customers.

CAT members receive several benefits for their service:

Making a Positive Difference

As a member of the CAT, you will have the opportunity to participate in the process to improve accessibility for all people in the Portland metro area. The work is varied, engaging, and rewarding with the potential to have a lasting impact on our region.

As a member of CAT, you will meet and work with transportation officials, city representatives, and others from the disability community, continuing to build upon strong ties between community based organizations and TriMet.

Monthly Transit Pass

Members of CAT receive a monthly Transit Pass for their commitment.

The CAT is made up of 15 members who are chosen by the following representative criteria.

Eight members at large who are persons with disabilities and/or older adults who use or are familiar with TriMet’s public transportation services.

Six members representing persons with disabilities and/or senior citizens who use or are familiar with TriMet’s public transportation services.

One member of the TriMet Board.

Members who serve as representatives of persons with disabilities and/or seniors will typically have direct affiliations with agencies and organizations providing services or advocacy. The composition of the membership serving as representatives will reflect a balance across various types of disabilities. Applicant’s transit usage and/or their familiarity with the transit system will be considered during the recruitment/interview process.
