About Legacy Hop Program

Effective January 2020, your monthly TriMet pass is switching to a Hop Fastpass™ fare card! If you are currently purchasing a monthly paper pass through Legacy, you will receive a reloadable Hop card in the mail along with your paper pass for December 2019. Beginning December 11th, you will purchase your January monthly pass from TriMet’s Hop website, in place of the Legacy portal that you had previously used. This means that there is no more waiting for a monthly pass in the mail as your monthly pass will be instantly loaded onto your reusable Hop card!

Please note, paper passes will no longer be accepted after December 31, 2019. TriMet will accept Hop cards exclusively effective January 1, 2020.

How do I purchase a Hop Monthly Pass?

After receiving your Hop card in the mail with your December 2019 paper pass, you will need to create an account on Hop’s secure website. Hop will ask for your first name, last name and employee ID number. This information will verify if you are eligible for a transit subsidy through Legacy Health. This information must match the records that Legacy has provided.

Once you register your Hop card on the Hop website, you will then see the option to purchase your pass for the next month. You can purchase the next month’s pass any time after the 11th of the previous month – no more waiting for it to arrive in the mail! Forget to order your pass until the 1st of the month? Not a problem, you can visit myhopcard.com in your browser to buy a new pass on your way to catch your bus or train!

Please note, January 2020 passes can be purchased anytime between December 11, 2019 and January 10, 2020.

Can I use the Hop App on my Smartphone?

No. However, you can visit myhopcard.com in your browser to access your Legacy subsidy. Unfortunately, the Legacy subsidy is currently not supported on the Hop App.

How much will this cost?

Your Legacy subsidy is remaining the same, and TriMet is providing your initial Hop Card free of charge!

Also, since we are no longer mailing your pass, you will no longer need to pay the $2.50 shipping and handling fee that was charged monthly in the past.

What if I use Honored Citizen/LIFT/Reduced Fare?

If you currently purchase Honored Citizen fare, you will receive an Honored Citizen card, instead of the standard adult card. This will allow you to use Legacy’s subsidy for your Honored Citizen fare.

If you qualify for TriMet’s reduced fare program, you will need to get a reduced fare Honored Citizen card from TriMet. After you receive your card from TriMet, you will then need to provide your 16-digit card number to your Legacy benefits coordinator, who will then be able to add that card number to Legacy’s account, that way you will be able to use the Legacy subsidy.

If you qualify for TriMet’s LIFT paratransit program, you will you will need to get a LIFT card from TriMet. After you receive your card from TriMet, you will then need to provide your 16-digit card number to your Legacy benefits coordinator, who will then be able to add that card number to Legacy’s account, that way you will be able to use the Legacy subsidy.

How do I use my Hop card?

Tap your Hop card every time you ride, including transfers, as it will be your proof of fare. Upon a successful tap, the Hop reader displays a green checkmark and how much longer your pass is valid. There is no need to tap when exiting a transit vehicle. Tap your card on the target below the validator’s screen. Make sure you tap every time – without proof of payment, you could be fined up to $250 or excluded from the transit system!

What if I lose my Hop Card?

If your registered Hop card is ever lost or stolen, let TriMet know immediately by logging in to your account and choosing “Report Lost or Stolen” on the Hop website, or give us a call at 1-844-MYHOPCARD (694-6722). Our phones are available 7:30 am.-5:30 pm, daily. We will immediately block your card for your protection. If you later find your Hop card, you can unblock it directly via the Hop website.

You can purchase a new Hop card at nearly 500 locations or the TriMet Customer Support Center, just be sure that you do not load any funds to that card.* Then, call us at 1-844-MYHOPCARD (694-6722) and we will move your pass to your new Hop card.

*Some retailers may not allow you to purchase a card without loading funds to it – please be sure you purchase a card with no funds added.

What if I still want to use a paper Monthly Pass?

After December 2019, TriMet is no longer accepting or selling paper passes. A benefit to this change is that Hop offers lost-card protection, which you didn’t get with paper passes. In the past, if paper passes were lost or stolen, there was no replacement for them.

Can I use my phone as my fare?

No, not if you are using the Legacy subsidy. Phone as fare is currently only supported for consumer accounts, not employer-sponsored accounts.
